I am excited to invite high school students (grades 9–12) in the 40th Senatorial District to participate in a unique essay competition for the opportunity to attend a special Pennsylvania Senate Ceremonial Meeting at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
As part of Pennsylvania’s commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States, one selected student, and their guardian, will join me on Tuesday, May 5 to experience this historic event firsthand and engage in the civic process. A travel stipend will be provided.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a longstanding Senate tradition, represent your community, and learn more about state government and civic responsibility.
Submit your essay below for a chance to be selected. Your essay must be submitted by March 30 at 12:00 p.m. Essays must be between 250–500 words and respond to the prompt: “What the Declaration of Independence Means to Me.” A selection will be announced on Friday, April 3rd.
Students or schools with additional questions should contact Mackenzie Mueller at 570-620-4326 or mmueller@pasen.gov.
